Water Harvesting

Rainfall gives us a natural opportunity to replenish the water beneath our land, yet rapid construction and increasing cemented surfaces can prevent much of this water from entering the soil. Instead, rainwater often travels across roads, rooftops and paved areas before flowing into drainage systems and away from the location where it falls.

Through its Water Harvesting campaign, Ghar Kar Foundation aims to create practical, location based solutions that help suitable rainwater move back towards the ground. The approach includes developing new rainwater harvesting systems as well as identifying existing structures that may be technically suitable for restoration or improvement.

Every location requires a different solution. Available space, rainfall, surface conditions, existing infrastructure, soil and groundwater recharge possibilities must be understood before implementation begins.

Water conservation also connects directly with the Foundation’s wider environmental vision. Gaushalas require water for animals and maintenance, plantations need continued watering, farmers depend upon local water resources and villages require dependable water systems for everyday life.

By conserving rainfall where possible, Ghar Kar Foundation aims to encourage responsible water management that supports communities, animals, vegetation and the natural environment together.
